BloodMoney is a seemingly cute clicker game that contains deep psychological horror. With gentle pastel graphics and adorable characters, the game attracts players with a contradictory plot: You need $25,000 to perform an important surgery, but the way to earn money is cruel.
"What are you willing to do for money?" is the question posed by BloodMoney. Each click brings money but also causes pain for Harvey. The player is forced to balance the need for money against morality as Harvey's reactions change from pleading to anger and despair as the tools get more brutal. At first, Harvey laughs.
Cute pastel graphics trick the player into thinking this is just a normal clicker. The contrast between innocent images and violent actions makes the experience memorable and lasting.
Harvey reacts in real time to each of your choices. From goofy laughs to screams, sobs, and the fourth-wall-breaking line, “This isn’t a game to me; this is my life.” The game leaves you feeling guilty.
Saving lives is a good reason to start. However, the Bad Ending shows that money was the true driving force behind the surgery, which wasn't urgent. BloodMoney illustrates how people can readily defend evil when it serves their interests.
The "simple" clicker genre is transformed into an ethical experiment by this game. Harvey's actual suffering is shown with every number increase, making players face their behavior.
The in-game shop is always attractive, lighting up when new items are available, accompanied by Harvey's voiceover: "Go check it out, buddy." Each new tool means an upgrade in income and increased brutality, making players both excited and nervous.
