What is Mind Games: Trepidation?

Mind Games: Trepidation is the first title in the Mind Games interactive book series, blending elements of horror, sci-fi, supernatural intrigue, and romance. Set in a dystopian world where superhumans, known as Alphas, are hunted and feared, players step into the shoes of an Alpha with remarkable abilities. The game is rich in narrative depth, placing the player in the town of Armington, where a looming Centennial Celebration and a mysterious disease affecting the Super population create a tense backdrop.

In this world, Alphas were nearly wiped out 25 years ago, following government regulations aimed at neutralizing their perceived threat. Today, the Advocacy of Peace is responsible for continuing the hunt, while simultaneously employing both Alphas and Supernaturals. But rumors circulate—Alphas working for the Advocacy tend to disappear without a trace. As the main character, a private investigator working closely with a sheriff aware of these secrets, players must navigate dangerous political waters, uncover hidden truths, and make difficult choices that will affect the story's progression.

Throughout the first six available chapters (out of a planned nine plus an epilogue), players will encounter a blend of investigative tasks, supernatural threats, and romance, all while deciding their fate and the fates of those around them.

How to Play Mind Games: Trepidation

Mind Games: Trepidation is an interactive story, where players shape the narrative through choices. Here’s how to navigate and make the most out of the experience:

 - Create Your Character:

At the beginning, you will customize your character by choosing their first and last name, gender, pronouns, and sexuality. The game allows for an inclusive experience, including asexuality, which will not lock players out of romantic interactions or important scenes in later books.

 - Make Choices that Matter:

Every choice in the game has consequences, from how you interact with other characters to how you handle various challenges. These choices will affect how characters perceive you and the story's direction. Not everyone will agree with your actions, and that tension forms a core part of the gameplay experience.

 - Romantic Options:

There are six romantic options, with one (Fawn) being restricted based on gender. Romances are entirely optional, but they add depth to the storyline, allowing players to build relationships and experience different paths in the narrative.

 - Navigate Challenges:

As an Alpha, your character will face a variety of dangers, from government persecution to supernatural threats. You'll be forced to make life-or-death decisions, manage relationships, and investigate the mysterious disease spreading through the Super population. The investigation elements bring in puzzles and deductive reasoning, adding an extra layer to the storytelling.

 - Stat and Dictionary System:

The game offers a Stats Page where you can track your progress and choices. There's also a dictionary system under the Stats Page, providing definitions for unfamiliar terms you might encounter in the narrative, ensuring you’re never lost in the game’s world.

 - Save System:

The game features a save system that allows players to save their progress. While it may be a bit finicky, it is functional, and players are encouraged to report any issues they encounter with it.
