Binnorie: A Reimagining of Betrayal and Choice

Binnorie is an interactive narrative game based on the traditional ballad of the same name. This eerie and tragic folk tale tells the story of two royal sisters, a charming knight, and the jealousy that leads to betrayal and death. Set in a medieval world of duty, love, and fate, Binnorie explores the depths of the human psyche, where emotions such as desire and envy intertwine with destiny.

The story follows Princess Helen, the eldest sister, who is promised to Sir William, a knight of noble stature. However, William's heart belongs to the younger sister, Sibelle, whose grace and beauty enchant him. Overcome with jealousy, Helen must decide how far she is willing to go to keep what she believes is hers. Will the tale always end the same way, or will the choices made throughout the game lead to one of the alternate conclusions?

A Twist on Tradition: Multiple Perspectives, Multiple Endings?

While the traditional ballad offers a single, definitive ending, our interactive version presents a branching narrative with the potential for multiple outcomes. While the core narrative of love, betrayal, and consequence remains, the player's choices impact the journey and the final resolution. Will the story adhere to the tragic precedent, or can a different path be forged? Can the cycle of violence be broken? The answers lie in the player's hands.

The Characters: Exploring the Depths of Desire and Despair

 - Helen: The Dark Sister: Princess Helen, the elder sister, is more than just a jealous villain. She is a complex character burdened by duty and overshadowed by her radiant younger sibling. The interactive narrative allows players to explore the pressures she faces as the heir to the throne, the insecurities that fester beneath her composed exterior, and the agonizing conflict between duty and desire. "What are you hiding?" she asks, hinting at the secrets and hidden resentments that drive her actions.

 - William: The Knight: Sir William, the object of both sisters' affections, is not merely a romantic ideal. He is a figure of intrigue, his motives and affections shrouded in ambiguity. "Some would do anything to achieve what they desire," he remarks, a statement that casts a shadow over his seemingly noble intentions. Is he truly captivated by the younger sister's beauty, or is there a more calculated game at play?

 - Sibelle: The Fair Sister: Princess Sibelle, the younger sister, embodies innocence and grace. She is the favored one, radiating charm and attracting the knight's attention. However, her sweetness may mask a deeper understanding of the dynamics at play. "The roses have bloomed so wonderfully," she observes, a seemingly innocuous comment that could carry a hidden meaning, hinting at her awareness of the growing tension.
